CQR Almaty- a legend in project cargo

Conqueror Almaty’s project division is renowned for its handling capabilities and almost legendary when it comes to taking on large, complex, intricate projects. They recently lived up to their reputation when they were asked to handle and deliver crushers from Spain to Kazakhstan for a mining project.

The scope of work handled by the team was indeed comprehensive; including crating, sea freight, road freight and customs clearance at destination. Given the cargo weight, mobile cranes had to be positioned for loading onto the vessel chartered for the trip from Bilbao to St. Petersburg.

At St. Petersburg, personnel from their project office supervised reloading onto sea-river barges for the journey down the Volga Don River to the Caspian Sea Port of Astrakhan. Upon docking, the Crushers were offloaded and lashed onto low bed trailers, courtesy of Globalink’s road freight division, and departed at once for the job site. Clearance at destination was an exercise in efficiency and brought to close a well-planned and brilliantly executed job.

Despite thick forest and inadequate roads, the team managed to deliver the statue to Chennai Port and provide customs clearance and correct documentation. From there, it was loaded onto the vessel for Tanjung Pelapas where it was then transhipped to another vessel for the voyage from New York to Savannah. In view of the size of the statue, it had to be dismantled into 2 pieces and shipped on 2 x 40′ Flat Rack Containers.

Seahorse Shipping told us that this assignment was specially undertaken as a spiritual cause and on behalf of the whole Conqueror team, we would like to congratulate them on this.

Such was the significance of this shipment, that EXIM News featured it recently. To see the article, click here.

Abandoned trains transported to the home of trainspotting

In a remote area 450km outside Kolkata, our agent undertook the rather difficult job of transporting six abandoned railway engines by road to the city where it was to be placed on flat rack containers, secured by lashings and successfully shipped to Felixstowe Port

Each engine was taken apart at origin and shipped part by part which was rather challenging given the dilapidated condition of the engines. Getting the parts there without any further deterioration in their condition was crucial as once in the UK, they were to be reconditioned and exhibited.

Regional Forwarding Manager, Mr Ronee Sengupta told us, “The engines arrived safely at their destination which provided the perfect end to what was an extremely satisfying job for all involved.”

CQR Almaty ships 650-ton mills to China

The Conqueror Almaty team recently handled a substantial turnkey project of 3 mills for a gold mine in the south-east of Kazakhstan

Originating in China, the total weight of each mill was 650 tons. Due to extraordinary dimensions, each mill had to be disassembled into multiple pieces weighing 50 tons each. Being an out of gauge shipment, the transportation as well as the lashing, loading and unloading processes required the deployment of specialized heavy-lift equipment.

CQR Kazakhstan’s in-house industrial projects packing team secured each component at origin and arranged specialized industrial crating for the fragile mill parts. Once the shipment was secured on our specialized trailers, a long and challenging journey awaited from Luoyang in China to the final remote destination in southern Kazakhstan via Khorgos on the Sino-Kazakh Border covering more than 3500 kilometers.

Thanks to their own terminal at the Khorgos border, Globalink’s in-house customs brokerage team swiftly completed the clearance and certification process. Due to well-coordinated team efforts by CQR Kazakhstan’s project specialists in China and Kazakhstan, the shipment crossed the border and was delivered at the project site just-in-time. At destination, the cargo was swiftly offloaded under the supervision of their project specialists so that their customer could begin installation operations right away.

Globalink, in its 20-year history of operations in the CIS market, has gained a well-deserved reputation for being the Project Logistics Managements Company of choice by EPC, mining and oil & gas companies in the region and they constantly strive to maintain their unique position.

The Locofreight team provided the lashing, securing, and packaging and loaded the goods into 2 x 40′ FR from Turkey, 7 x open top in gauge units from Turkey and 6 x 4′ HC and 1 x 20′ ST from Germany

“We were certainly not without our challenges. We had to book the equipment and arrange special trucks to do the job in order to ensure minimal risk of damage, whilst at the same time coordinating with the shipper in Turkey and head office in Germany. Oh and not forgetting the L/C expiry date was nearing,” explained Manager, M’barek A.

“Being the most sensitive shipment we have handled for Coca Cola, we dedicated a highly professional team to keep close eyes on the running of the delivery. We had to make sure the shipping schedule fitted with the deadlines with regards to the shipment date, L/C and installation.”

Thanks to their successful handling of this project, the team is enjoying further business, with Coca Cola requesting their logistics services across Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

CQR Casablanca are bucking the trend showing that shipments go better with independent forwarders because they provide the real thing!*
