CQR Johannesburg expands into container conversion

During the past four years, Conqueror’s agent in Durban and Johannesburg, has established a strong dependable name in the container sales and leasing market in Southern Africa, through its subsidiary

“Our name is synonymous with quality and service,” according to Alpha’s National Container Manager, James Norman, “and we have seen our market share grow steadily, as we seek, good quality equipment from China and other overseas markets. This has largely been possible due to our Conqueror partners, offering freight solutions, to facilitate movement of the containers to South Africa.”

In a new move, Alpha Shipping has started converting shipping containers into offices, shops, houses, and classrooms. “Actually the sky is the limit” claims Norman, “because with imagination, containers can be converted to almost any design the customer wants”.

And the next move? “At the moment we are just selling locally and to neighbouring countries,” says joint Managing Director, Richard Brook-Hart “but we know there is a big demand for converted containers throughout Africa, and this is where our Conqueror partners will again play a part, as we look to further expand by exporting our units into East and West Africa.”

igus® has retrofitted a small car with iglidur® plastic components and sent it on a 10 month global expedition to demonstrate the high quality of its products. The CQR Munich team have been responsible for every aspect of the journey which is taking the car across four continents and three oceans; mile upon mile of tarmac, gravel, dirt and mud through rain, searing heat and snow.

“So far we are running to schedule, despite some schedule changes due to local vehicle registration problems in a few countries; we have had to register the car a few times to get local number plates, and the short transfer time of re-exporting the car currently in Brazil to Alaska. But, all in all this is a great project although I have to be reachable at all times,” explained Michael Lichtenegger of CQR Munich.

This tour has quite a following through its online blog and its facebook page which is certainly helping spread the name of Multi Logistics worldwide and increase its customer base. While for some companies this would be a once in a lifetime contract, for Multi Logistics, this is just one of a number of all-engrossing assignments, especially those for film, music and theatre projects.

Madrid, Spain – Conqueror Freight Network is pleased to announce the launch of the newest phase of its complimentary PR and Marketing Services. Conqueror Freight Network is offering its members professional, personalised marketing tools including, a website, brochure, video and PowerPoint presentation at no cost. “Marketing is costly to independent companies and yet they cannot allow themselves to become stagnant in this area which is why we assist our members as much as we can. We want to give our agents the tools to compete in an ever competitive global market,” explained Antonio Torres.

With a common design, colour and images, all of the tools created complement each other seamlessly. “The only way this service could benefit our members was if we offered a universal corporate identity across all the promotional materials, emphasised Mr Torres, “Yes, we could offer totally unique designs for each element, but we want the customers of our members to recognise the brand when they see it.”

The PR and Marketing Service was well-received by the 117 Conqueror members at the network’s 3rd annual meeting in Kuala Lumpur in May. “The internet was one area where, I must admit, our company had failed to create a real presence despite it being the most utilised search tool for potential clients, but now I will be able to without it breaking the bank,” said one satisfied delegate.

“With the multinationals gaining ground year on year, in my opinion, networks have a duty of care to their members to assist them in whatever way they can. It is not ok to just accept a membership fee and offer nothing in return except a list of contacts. We, the team behind Conqueror are continuously looking for new ways in which we can help increase members visibilit’y both within the network and worldwide,” said Antonio Torres.

Interview with CQR Riga

Our member in Riga joined Conqueror in February this year as the network’s exclusive member in Riga, Latvia.

Andrey Sherstobitov, Rinosta’s Liner Manager, recently spoke with us about the company and the changes and advances it has undertaken over the 20 years since it began.

Q. When and how did you get into the freight forwarding industry?

A. My life in the shipping industry started 2 decades ago when I was a young graduate straight out of Riga Aviation University. My first job was in a company where I was appointed the Riga agent for the container line – Sea Land.

Q. When and why did you join Rinosta?

A. At the end of ’90’s, when Sea Land was acquired by Maersk there was a merger of staff from both agencies in Riga. I took this as an opportunity to get out of a big organization. This was when I then joined Rinosta.

Q. On the 8th August 2013, SIA “RINOSTA SHIPPING AGENCY” joined forces with the Investment and Development Agency of Latvia (LIAA) on a project which became called “The External marketing activity of SIA “Rinosta Shipping Agency” in 2013″. Could you tell us a little more about this?

A. The objective of the Investment and Development Agency of Latvia (LIAA) is to promote business development by facilitating more foreign investment, in parallel increasing the competitiveness of Latvian entrepreneurs in both domestic and foreign markets. In Rinosta’s case, we received EU funds through the LIAA in order to further our advertising and also our participation in international transport fairs like TransRussia which was held in Moscow last year. As a result, we have been able to take Rinosta to the next level in terms of trading internationally and attracting overseas partners.

Q. What would be the most significant shipment your company has handled? What challenges did it pose and how did your team overcome them and successfully complete the shipment?

A. In reply to such a question, people in shipping often recall an exceptional OOG, heavy or ultra-fast cargo delivery; mentioning meters, tons, hours, minutes etc. The truth is that this doesn’t impress everyone.

At Rinosta Shipping, we work with these aforementioned cargo types on a regular basis, and when tasks are defined in advance, normally, processes run smoothly and on time. Difficulties may arise with unexpected shipments even if it’s in standard containers; such as when a client requests a last minute delivery of a substantial volume of cargo to a far off land, for example.

Two months ago, we received an urgent request from one of our clients to ship fertilizers from Latvia to Beira (Mozambique) in some 166×20′ in one shipment. We had just 1 week to find and choose a carrier, reserve space and equipment and fix the booking and trucks for pre-carriage from loading place to the port. Despite the loading place being in Latvia, Klaipeda port (Lithuania) was considered as POL due to inland route optimization..

Excellent cooperation between the staff at our two offices in Riga and Klaipeda, their good communication with the carrier line and the trucking companies meant for a successful shipping process.

Q. Next year Rinosta will be celebrating its 20th Anniversary? How different is Rinosta now to 1995?

A. In short, Rinosta has changed A LOT. It is almost unrecognizable. The company has gone from focusing on dedicated single break bulk cargo flow in Riga port to a multipurpose entity which handles FCL, LCL, FTL, LTL, AF and warehousing activities within the Baltic States.
