CQR Lisbon successfully moves 6 meter tall container from Portugal to Angola

Special transport was needed to carry out the complex delivery of the massive shipment

Last January, our CQR member in Lisbon, Incotrans, transported a 6-metre-tall and 3 diameters cargo from Lisbon to Luanda. In order to execute this delivery, they first selected special road transport to move the load from the shipper warehouse at Aveiro to Leixões (around 80 Km).

Afterwards, they used a Portuguese Shipping line to move the freight from Leixões Port to Luanda.

Finally, they arranged a special crane to unload the cargo from the vessel and deliver it to the cnee plant.

Excellent job Incotrans!

CQR Athens, Piraeus anchorage delivery

Only a couple of weeks ago, CQR Athens/Piraeus handled the very particular shipment of an oversized steam boiler.

The huge steam boiler (7,850mm x 3,075mm x 3,230mm in size and 28 tons in weight) plus a 20′ dv SOC containing spare parts where shipped from Piraeus shore using a barge/service boat. Unusual means of transport, you will say, but if I tell you that the delivery had to be done at the anchorage area of Piraeus port, then everything falls in place!

According to an official release, Conqueror is a solid alliance in which carefully-selected independent freight forwarders in each major city in the world cooperate reciprocally and securely to expand their businesses, reduce costs and risks, and compete on more equal terms against the largest international companies.

At the opening of the meeting, Managing Director, Mr Antonio Torres, congratulated members on their efforts to work cooperatively to serve clients globally and overcome client perceptions that independent forwarders are not equipped to provide a truly worldwide service.

“Cooperation is one important element in our strategy for boosting the business volume of our members; another is our city-exclusivity, like the multinationals, and the third and most important is our annual meeting. As you can see, members are making the most of their individual meetings as well as competing for each other’s attention away from them,” explained Mr Torres.

“As a direct result of meeting our fellow members last year, we saw a marked increase in turnover and I firmly believe that the same will happen again this year; I already have many new leads to follow-up,” said one satisfied member.

Conqueror collaboration- a network in action

This week we would like to bring you the special news of two Conqueror partners working together to form a “multinational” beating tender.

CQR Porto member MGC Transitarios, Lda recently won a project of 117.541kgs of air cargo from Portugal to Saudi Arabia. The load required 8 full trucks from Porto to Amsterdam and 3 cargo aircrafts to load all pieces involved (102 in total, some of them were 2.56m high!). The complexity of the project was such that the final route was Porto-Amsterdam-Luxemburg-Dammam-Jeddah.

When CQR Porto started negotiating this project they found that Portuguese air companies were not offering competitive prices. So, they contacted CQR Amsterdam, AMLH BV H.O.D.N. AIRFRIGO, to find a competitive solution outside of Portugal. Together they managed to negotiate and secure the best rates for the project, beating several multinational companies that were also interested in such large and complex shipment.

The negotiations with the shipper (the biggest technological company in Portugal) were hard; taking over a week to get available space and to convince the client that they were the right partners for the job.

Great team work!
